The Atlas Excellence Scorecard
Every potential partner is assessed against our comprehensive ‘Atlas Excellence Scorecard’, a multi-point evaluation system managed by our senior team members. A partner must achieve a minimum score of 90/100 to be included in our portfolio. The scorecard is weighted across five critical categories:
1. Safety & Regulatory Compliance (35% Weighting)
This is our non-negotiable foundation. Our Head of Operations, Dewi Lestari, personally audits these criteria.
- Vessel Seaworthiness: Annual review of maintenance logs and Indonesian Classification Bureau (BKI) certification.
- Crew Certification: Verification of STCW and other relevant maritime certifications for captain and key crew. PADI certification for all dive staff.
- Emergency Preparedness: On-site inspection of safety equipment (life rafts, EPIRB, satellite phones, DAN-standard oxygen kits) and review of documented emergency action plans (EAPs), including medical evacuation protocols with facilities like Siloam Hospitals Labuan Bajo.
- Legal Standing: Verification of SIUP-PARIWISATA (Tourism Business License) and NPWP (Tax ID).
2. Service & Hospitality Standards (25% Weighting)
Luxury is defined by service. Our Client Experience Director, Isabella Chen, leads this evaluation, drawing on her background with Aman and Four Seasons.
- Staff-to-Guest Ratio: Must meet or exceed luxury industry benchmarks for personalized attention.
- Crew Training & Etiquette: Assessment of crew professionalism, English proficiency, and training in luxury service standards.
- Culinary Excellence: Review of menus, chef credentials, sourcing policies (local and fresh), and ability to cater to complex dietary requirements.
- Personalization: Demonstrated ability to anticipate guest needs and accommodate special requests.
3. Asset Quality & Amenities (20% Weighting)
The physical environment must match the promise of luxury.
- Vessel/Property Condition: Annual on-site inspection of cabin quality, common areas, dive decks, and engine rooms.
- Onboard Amenities: Availability and quality of features such as air conditioning, ensuite bathrooms, water makers, and dedicated camera rooms.
- Cleanliness & Maintenance: Scored during unannounced spot-checks to ensure consistently high standards.
4. Sustainability & Community Impact (10% Weighting)
We partner only with operators who share our commitment to preserving Komodo. This is assessed by Dr. Ardiansyah Putra.
- Environmental Policies: Verifiable single-use plastic reduction, responsible waste management, and use of reef-safe products.
- Conservation Contributions: Active financial or in-kind support for recognized NGOs like the Komodo Survival Program or Manta Trust.
- Local Employment: Percentage of crew and staff from local Flores and Komodo communities.
- Sourcing: Prioritization of locally sourced goods and services.
5. Dive Operation Excellence (10% Weighting)
For our core offering, the dive operation must be flawless. Vetted by Made Wirawan, our PADI Course Director.
- Equipment Quality: Regular servicing records for compressors and rental gear from reputable brands.
- Guide Experience: Minimum number of logged dives in Komodo required for all guides.
- Safety Briefings: Quality and thoroughness of site-specific dive briefings.
- Small Group Policy: Strict adherence to small diver-to-guide ratios.
Our Ongoing Audit Process
Inclusion in our portfolio is not permanent. We conduct scheduled annual site visits and unscheduled inspections to ensure our partners continuously meet and exceed the Atlas Excellence standard. We also incorporate detailed feedback from every client into a partner’s ongoing quality score.
